Intimacy Consultant & Workshops
What Can an
Intimacy Consultant Do?
An Intimacy Consultant can help a theatre company or production team plan for scenes of intimacy or nudity. Intimacy Consultations are meant to educate theatre and film makers to give them tools to work on scenes safely.
An Intimacy Consultant might also recommend hiring and using an Intimacy Director (Theatre/Live Performance) or Intimacy Coordinator (Film/TV) depending on the needs of the story, or support the Actors involved.
What Can’t Intimacy Consultant Do?
An Intimacy Consultant is not responsible for artistic elements of scenes of intimacy or nudity such as choreography. Since they are not present on set, they are also not responsible for the safety of those involved – including but not limited to the Actors. They do not check in with actors in a private setting or gather information about members of production. An Intimacy Consultant is not a Mental Health Consultant and does not provide mental health services. An Intimacy Consultant is not responsible for drafting nudity riders for the production, nor do they sign them. An Intimacy Consultant should advise on reporting structures but is not designated as a point of contact for the production.
Intimacy Workshops are not to train people to become Intimacy Directors and Coordinators. There are organizations that offer training for this.
If you are looking for these services consider hiring an Intimacy Director (Theatre/Live Performance) or an Intimacy Coordinator (Film/TV) if those are things your production is needing.
Intimacy Consultations
Intimacy Best Practices: Policies and Procedures
Does your company have formal policies and procedures surrounding physical and sexual intimacy and touch? If not, consider reaching out and allowing me to sit down and help you create policies and procedures for your company for future productions.
Script Review
Do you have a script or several you're considering for your season? Hire me to read it over and advise you on the requirements of the script and ideas about possible requests for your production surrounding intimacy.
Auditions and Intimacy
Audition calls are the Actors first glance into what they may audition for. It's important to not only have clear information listed in the Audition Breakdown, but information at the audition itself.
Can you have the Actors engage in any intimate moments in the audition process? This consultation will help you determine Best Practices around Intimacy and Auditions.
Intimacy Workshops
A Slice of Intimacy - Introduction to Intimacy
Open to all who are interested in what Staged Intimacy is for Theatre and Film. Learn how Intimacy Directors and Intimacy Coordinators work in theatre and film.
Class Length: 90 minutes with room for a Q & A at the end.. Minimum/Maximum Amount of Participants: 4/50. (Can be done online or in-person.)
Consent and Boundaries for the Actor
Actors are taught to analyze the script from the performers perspective, but not from their own. This workshop looks at more than physical touch and intimacy. It empowers the Actor to know how to review Audition Notices and acting materials to determine if it’s a good fit for them or not.
Designed for Actors, but Directors and Stage Managers are welcomed to join. Learn basic tools and language around communicating boundaries and physical touch with your partner(s) and others you work with confidence.
Actors will also be taught how to review scripts to look for clues surrounding required and possible intimacy, moments of physical touch, themes, and dialogue they may be asked to perform.
Length: 3-4 hours. Minimum/Maximum Amount of Participants: 6/20. (An even amount of participants helps, but is not required.) (In-person only.)
Working with an Intimacy Professional
This workshop is the follow up to ‘A Slice of Intimacy.’ Learn how an Intimacy Professional works and how you can support them during your production.
Your Child/Student and Intimacy Directing/Coordinating
Minors in most cases can’t legally consent. How can they still have autonomy over their own selves? How can their parent(s) and/or legal guardian(s) be more involved while still respecting their space and boundaries?
This workshop gives both Student Actors and their parent(s) and/or legal guardian(s) the tools for communicating with each other, the Intimacy Director/Coordinator, and the Director. It also breaks down the role and responsibilities of everyone involved in the production.
Length: 90 minutes with room for a Q & A at the end. Minimum/Maximum Amount of Participants: 4/50. (Can be done online or in-person.)
